Chartham occurs as village (people: 4,941 - 2001 nosecount) inside Kent, 4 miles west of Canterbury.

Set on the River Stour which provides power for the paper mills. A title literally means ‘Village in rough in ground’, & a word "Chart" is too noticed inside more villages inside Kent using this meaning. Paper making has been the major occupation for the survive 625 years. A Paper Mill around Chartham has a nick title of "The Old Man" due to its building shape, dates from either a late eighteenth century & specialises in the production of tracing paper. In a summertime, numerous caravans park higher outside the Paper Mill in their annual Caravan Paper convention.

A church of St Mary blessed virginside, is placed next to a village green & is remarkable for containing the oldest pealing of bells in Kent. It was built insifirst state or so 1294 & features the total of telling brasses, including that of St Robert de Setvans.

A village is continuous by owning a little Shalmsford to a west, & was until recently the location of St Augustine's Mental Hospital, erstwhile referred to as a East Kent Lunatic Asylum. A northern, upper, section of the village is referred to as Chartham Hatch.
